Airbus apprentice Lucinda Dancer has won the Higher Apprentice of the Year Award at the South West regional heat of the prestigious National Apprenticeship Awards.

The judges felt the 20-year-old third year higher engineering apprentice exceeded all expectations with her high level of job awareness.

She said: “I had no pre-conceived aspirations so when I heard my name it was lovely, but a complete shock! I returned to work to an inbox full of messages of congratulations, including one from Filton general manager Mark Stewart. To receive recognition at a personal level from the general manager was amazing.”

Lucinda, from Warmley, Bristol, is completing her Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies Higher Apprenticeship through City of Bristol College.

Organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) the awards are designed to celebrate the achievements of apprentices and the businesses that employ them. Lucinda will now represent the South West at the National Apprenticeship Awards, being held in London on the June 29.

John Chudley, South West director for the National Apprenticeship Service said: “Given the volume and high calibre of entries we received, I’d like to take this opportunity to extend my congratulations to Lucinda for her ongoing commitment to apprenticeships. By acknowledging and rewarding the diverse learners and training opportunities in the region, we hope to encourage more individuals and organisations to take part in initiatives in the future.

Airbus apprentice manager Tony Rooke said: “Lucinda is an outstanding apprentice and we had no hesitation in putting her forward for this award.”
