Lord Mayor of Bristol Gift Gala signs up Burston Cook as headline sponsor

Bristol commercial property surveying firm Burston Cook has become the headline sponsor of this year’s Lord Mayor of Bristol Gift Gala.

The event raises money for The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal, giving the city’s most disadvantaged children vouchers for food, clothing and gifts at Christmas.

For the first time in its history, it will take place at City Hall on May 17.

It is one of two main fundraisers for the appeal, which raises £66,000 throughout the year to be able to provide vouchers, totalling £40 per family and administered through Bristol City Council Social Services.

Lord Mayor Cllr Lesley Alexander will arrive at the event accompanied by the spectacular City of Bristol Pipes and Drums and the evening will include entertainment by soul singer Eleazar King and a string quartet. It will be hosted by a yet-to-be announced national celebrity.

The city’s business community has traditionally been strong supporters of the event.

Director Julian Cook said: “It is an honour for me as a director of Burston Cook to help and support the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.  Last year we sponsored the production of the film but this year we wanted to make a bigger statement about our support for this charity which really helps at a grassroots level.

“To think Bristol is one of the UK’s most prosperous cities, yet has the highest proportion of children in poverty, really does hit a nerve with me and therefore to have an opportunity to help is a privilege.”

Lord Mayor Cllr Lesley Alexander added: “We are so grateful to all our sponsors, without whom this event wouldn’t be possible. Their commitment to the charity is very special.”

Burston Cook was also a sponsor last year, alongside others including law firm Ashfords, Rybrook Cars and GWR.  The event is also supported by Barclays Bank through its ‘Pound for Pound’ scheme and the Bristol Post.
