Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson’s Bristol-based legal director Ewen Macgregor has been named Licensing Lawyer of the Year at the Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards.

Ewen, pictured, who leads the firm’s national alcohol and gambling practice, was recognised for his expertise in advising a wide range of international, national and regional clients in the hospitality and leisure industry from hotel and bar operators through to off-sales retailers, cinemas, theatres, family entertainment centres and a range of gaming venues.

He is a member of the Institute of Licensing and the Gambling Industry Lawyers’ Group and is consultant editor of Licensing Law Reports.

The Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards recognise the achievements of law firms, lawyers, barristers and those connected to the legal world who have a proven track record in delivering results for their clients. The 2017 winners were announced following extensive research and feedback from clients and contacts.

Ewen said: “Thank you to Lawyer Monthly for this award, which is recognition of the great work put in by the whole licensing team for our clients.

“Having recently become Womble Bond Dickinson following our combination with our US alliance partners, I look forward to working with colleagues in the US to strengthen and grow our Licensing offering in the UK and beyond.”

Womble Bond Dickinson was launched on November 1 following the merger of UK-based Bond Dickinson and US firm Womble Carlyle. The combined firm employs more than 1,000 lawyers across 16 US offices and eight UK offices – 250 of them in its Bristol office, its second largest in the UK.
