FRP Corporate Finance’s Bristol office has appointed a leading figure in the city’s dealmaking community as a partner – the latest recruit to its growing team.

Tim Spooner joins after more than 20 years at ‘big four’ accountancy group KPMG, 12 of them working in a senior leadership role in its corporate finance team.

At KPMG Tim, pictured, left, with FRP Bristol location leader Andrew Sheridan and new senior associate Emma Wade, provided tailored, strategic advice to West of England business owners and management teams in sectors spanning healthcare, technology and infrastructure.

His recent deal experience includes advising rapid-growth Bristol tech services firm Amdaris, sport hospitality business Mike Burton Group, Inside Travel Group, Power Electrics and boutique mother & baby brand JoJo Maman Bébé on a range of sale processes, capital raises and non-core disposals.

In his new role at FRP Tim will help the corporate finance team expand the business’ footprint in the region.

Tim said: “FRP Corporate Finance is highly regarded across the industry and has a track record of delivering excellent work for high-profile clients and transactions.

“As a Bristolian, I’m looking forward to getting out there, re-connecting with and meeting more of the ambitious and driven businesses that make the South West such an exciting place to be, as well as working alongside my new talented and experienced colleagues.”

Mark Naughton, who leads the FRP’s corporate finance team in the South West, added: “Tim’s appointment reiterates our ability to attract the very best talent in the corporate finance sector, as we work to expand our regional offering as part of our growing national team.

“He is well known in the Bristol dealmaking community and brings a wealth of experience to support our ongoing growth and help deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients.”

Among deals that FRP Corporate Finance has advised on in the region over the past year are healthcare infrastructure business Archus’ investment from BGF, the sale of US-based international expansion specialist Blueback Global, which also has an office in Bristol, to TopSource Worldwide, and insulation services provider SCIS’s acquisition of Cotswold Energy Group.

The team’s growth follows a successful 2022 for FRP Corporate Finance nationally, having advised on 84 transactions with a total value of £2.9bn.

Tim’s appointment follows two partner promotions in the Bristol office so far this year – Jonathan Dunn in restructuring advisory and Matt Whitchurch in financial advisory.

It also comes as Emma Wade joins the Bristol team having recently re-located from her native France, following internships at Sorgem Évaluation and EY in Paris.

FRP Bristol location leader Andrew Sheridan said: “The breadth and depth of experience we now have across the firm and in Bristol and the wider South West means we are well placed to deliver for our clients across each of our connected service pillars – corporate finance, debt advisory, financial advisory, forensic services and restructuring advisory – at a critical time for firms in the region.”

FRP employs more than 640 people, including 88 partners, across its network of 27 offices in England and Scotland. Last year it opened its first international office in Cyprus.
