Bristol-based building supplies firm Kellaway has maintained its record of being either a winner or finalist at the prestigious Builders’ Merchants Awards for Excellence.

The firm, founded in 1982 and employing more than 120 people, has featured in the annual awards every year since 2006. This year it was a finalist in two categories – Best Customer Service and Best Training Initiative.

Held at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel last Friday, this year’s awards brought together more than 450 UK merchant representatives to recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in the industry.

Kellaway managing director Julian Milligan said: “The Builders’ Merchants Awards pit us against the very best in the industry.  To be finalists yet again is a huge credit to our staff and a very positive reflection of our on-going commitment to customer service.

“Our customers appreciate our commitment to service and the efforts we make to ensure our knowledgeable staff will go that little bit further to make sure they leave our branches happy.”

Kellaway has 10 branch locations in Bristol and around the West of England. It also owns Slate and Stone in Bath.

Mr Milligan added: “While there are signs of improving confidence in the construction industry, we continue to challenge ourselves to be the merchant of choice for our customers.

“Our training has been helping staff develop their decision-making skills across all areas of our business – from sales and customer service to people management and staff development.

“We’ve seen amazing results including improved account retention, increased sales and enhanced customer loyalty. All of this has allowed us to be much more proactive and, most importantly, improve the experience of all our customers.”
