Leading figures in business and education will discuss how they can work more closely together to prepare young people for the workplace at a high-profile event next week.

Among panel members at the debate staged by the Institute of Directors (IoD) Bristol branch, will be Dan Nicholls, principal of Brunel Academy, Colin Cattanach, principal of the Bath Studio School, which opens later this year, and Emma Zeeman, strategic director of HR at Avon & Somerset Constabulary.

Bristol IoD chair Rebecca Tregarthen said: “Many of our members say they are struggling to find enough young people adequately prepared for the world of work.

“As we move towards a more value-added, skills based economy, employers will be faced with challenges in remaining competitive in an international marketplace.  We need to address achievement levels in schools and further education establishments and explore ways in which business can play a more active and supporting role.”

The event takes place at The Engine Shed on Friday March 14, starting at 7.30am with networking before the discussion at 8am.  To register call 0117 370 7785 or book online at  http://www.iod.com/connecting/local-networks/south-west
