The ‘staff-first’ policy at Bristol-based ethical waste management company Waste Source has paid off with it achieving the prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Accreditation.

Waste Source, which has 12 staff, was launched in 2010 to make waste disposal a simpler, cheaper and more effective process for clients. It has since won blue-chip clients in the retail, hospitality, property and construction sectors, including Turtle Bay, Brewhouse and Kitchen and Amber Taverns.

It said the IIP accreditation was achieved through a rigorous and objective assessment to determine performance against the standard for people management.

IIP has been operating for 27 years to raise the standard of people management for the benefit of everyone. The internationally recognised accreditation is held by more than 11,000 organisations across 75 countries who lead, support and manage people well.

Research shows that IIP-accredited organisations are more profitable, more sustainable and more optimistic about the future.

Waste Source co-founder and managing director Chris Holland said: “Investors in people is all about continuous improvement, which we strive for at Waste Source. At the end of the day, the service we provide is the most important thing and our staff are the ones who deliver it, so putting health and wellbeing central to our business agenda is vital.

“How businesses develop their staff is evolving and we’ve put investment in our team at the heart of everything we do.”

The accreditation comes hot of the heels of a 32% increase in turnover to 5m.

Waste Source was founded by Chris Holland and Jon Free, pictured, while Chris was procurement manager for pioneering Bristol-based pie firm Pieminister. He realised the company was being overcharged for the removal of waste.
