A Bristol sustainable housing development that demonstrates the innovation of the city’s residential property development industry is to go on show at COP26.

Hope Rise, pictured, in St George will form the centrepiece of a virtual exhibition called Build Better Now at the landmark conference.

The scheme, which provides 11 homes for vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness, was selected alongside just 17 other sustainable projects from around the world, thanks to its net-zero carbon modular construction.

Exceeding regulations laid out by Bristol City Council’s Climate Energy Aspirations, Hope Rise, which was designed by ZED PODS, has a low environmental impact and provides exceptionally energy-efficient homes while being affordable to run.

Each of the homes – or pods – were ‘dropped’ on to the development land, then elevated with stilts.

Efficiency was key to the delivery to keep costs down and ensure it was built faster than traditional housing.

Bristol engineering consultancy Jubb played a key role in the scheme’s planning and construction.

Jubb was appointed consulting engineer due to its wealth of experience and strong relationships with local stakeholders and a track record of delivering projects with aspiring sustainable goals.

Jubb provided a range of geotechnical and civil engineering services which helped the scheme obtain planning permission and comply with flood risk and drainage guidelines.

Jubb managing director Rob Harrhy said: “As a local business we are particularly proud of this scheme that not only helps to combat the climate crisis, but the affordable housing one too.

“There is no grander stage than COP26 for our client ZED PODS to have their hard work rewarded.”

Jubb, which is committed to transitioning to a net-zero future and also has offices in Cardiff, Plymouth and Winchester, has also completed numerous other sustainable projects in Bristol, including the ‘flat-pack’ inspired neighbourhood called BoKlok on Airport Road.
