Bristol legal firm GL Law has expanded its private client team to meet a marked increase in people seeking advice about organising their affairs and planning for later life.

Senior associate solicitor Ben Coulson and paralegal Lauren Downs have joined to help them meet demand and support the team’s already impressive estate administration offering.

GL Law director and head of private client Heledd Wyn said the pandemic had had a profound effect on the way people think about their future and planning for the unexpected.

“Knowing that you have organised your affairs and protected yourself and your family brings great peace of mind,” she said.

Ben, pictured, has more than 10 years’ experience in private client law, and has joined GL from Blake Morgan in Cardiff.

He specialises in the full range of private client services including the administration of estates, advising on inheritance tax, Will planning, trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

He acts for a diverse range of clients from private individuals with relatively straightforward affairs through to high net worth individuals with more complex needs.

Lauren Downs, pictured, has joined GL Law from Bristol and Somerset firm Lyons Bowe, where she spent nearly two-and-a-half years as a legal assistant in its private client department.

Ben said: “As lawyers we are acutely aware of how important it is for a Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney to be put in place.

“A carefully drafted Will can ensure that your last wishes are accurately reflected and can help mitigate any potential tax consequences.

“When we talk to people about the consequences of not having these documents in place when the worst happens, we are reminded of just how devastating it can be for them and their family.”

The GL Law private client team provides advice and guidance on all aspects of estate planning including making a Will, Lasting Powers of Attorney, trusts, probate and estate administration.

The team also offers specialist advice to those facing long-term or elderly care, with particular experience in care funding and Court of Protection matters.

Known as Gregg Latchams until last year, GL Law can trace its roots back 325 years.

Its 65-strong team based in Bristol’s Queen Square and in its London office works with individuals and businesses in sectors ranging from creative, media and tech to food and drink and property.
