HSBC has appointed Mark Self as deputy area commercial director of its Bristol and Bath commercial team, focusing on companies turning over between £500,000 and £30m.

Mark, pictured, joins HSBC from Barclays Corporate, where he worked for nine years, the last six based in Bristol. Prior to that Mark worked for a number of years in both financial services and private SME businesses. His appointment brings staffing in the commercial team to 33.

HSBC has recently unveiled a £100m SME Fund, specifically to support businesses from Bristol and Bath to invest in growth and Mark will play a key role in helping customers access that fund.

He will report into Bristol and Bath area commercial director James Jordan, who said: “HSBC’s fund for Bristol and Bath is part of a wider £600m facility for the South West region and is a clear sign that we want to work with businesses to support their growth.

“Mark is vastly experienced and will be a great asset to the Bristol and Bath commercial team. He will play a key role in helping to drive the SME fund across our patch, benefitting both businesses and the local economy.”

Mark added: “I am pleased to be joining HSBC at this exciting time. The bank has remained a consistent supporter of businesses from Bristol and Bath over the past few years and this new fund is yet another example of how it is trying to support business and ensure it gets the finance it requires.”
