Businesses across Bristol and the West were disrupted today as heavy snow brought chaos to the roads and public transport.

Bristol Airport reopened this afternoon after being closed during morning as staff fought to clear snow-clogged runways.

All flights were grounded until around 2pm. Several inches of snow had prevented 15 flights from taking off as scheduled before 8am. There remain serious delays or cancellations this evening and passengers are advised to contact their airline for further information.

Transport has been hit hard across the region with commuters facing severe delays on some routes as accidents caused heavy tailbacks. First suspended all city centre bus services this morning although services resumed on some routes in time for the evenign rush hour and Wessex Buses said its Red services had been suspended because of the snow.

South West Trains had already given advance warning that there would be no service between Salisbury and Bristol Temple Meads all day today.

First Great Western's Severn Beach service faced severe disruption and trains on most routes in and out of the region were subject to delays.

All UWE campuses were closed along with many schools across the region.
