Bristol-based ethical lender Triodos Bank UK has been named as Best Savings Provider in a top finance industry award scheme – proving, it said, the growing demand for sustainable banking.

Triodos landed the title at the at the British Bank Awards 2021 as well as being highly commended in the Best Ethical Financial Provider category.

In total, Triodos was nominated in four categories overall, including Best Current Account Provider and Best British Bank.

Entirely voted for by customers, the awards are given to financial companies that offer the best products, innovation and service. In total, more than 90,000 people voted in this year’s awards.

Triodos Bank UK chief executive Bevis Watts said: “We offer a unique element of transparency and the reassurance that our customers’ money is being used as a force for good.

“For us to win at the British Bank Awards demonstrates that there is a real uplift in demand for sustainable banking.

“As best savings provider, we are proud to be able to offer, alongside our current account, an alternative to the dominant big banks. Sustainability is absolutely at the heart of Triodos Bank and we’re pleased to be recognised for how we’ve integrated these values throughout our products and services for over 25 years.”

He said the award was a real testament to the work that the team had put in over the past year, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

“Similarly, the support of our customers is vital – they’re our biggest advocates, so having their voices heard in these awards makes it really meaningful recognition. Thank you to everyone that left a review and voted for us,” he added.

Triodos Bank focuses on making money work for positive change and uses customers’ deposits to provide a range of finance and tailored support to progressive companies, social enterprises and charities making an impact, both from an environmental and social perspective. It offers a range of services, including current accounts, investments and savings. Last year, customers numbers for the bank grew by 20%.

Now in their seventh year, the British Bank Awards are run by Smart Money People, the financial services review and insights platform, and are considered the Oscars of the banking world.
