A new series of the successful CBeebies show Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures is the latest production to begin filming at Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios.

The third series of the popular show which will comprise 25 episodes, combines BBC archive footage with the latest digital CGI and green-screen technology to send presenter Andy Day, pictured, go on a jaw-dropping journey into prehistoric times.

Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures is produced by the BBC’s world-renowned, Bristol-based Natural History Unit and is a co-commission from CBeebies in the UK and BBC Worldwide for the international CBeebies channels.

Filming will take place over the next 16 weeks using 10,000 sq ft of production space at The Bottle Yard Studios in Hengrove, half of which is being used for green-screen equipment, the other half for set building.

Series producer Adam Oldroyd said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures to The Bottle Yard Studios. As a BBC Bristol production it’s great to have a studio here in the city, with the facilities, expertise and space to allow us to fully realise such a complex and ambitious series.”

The Bottle Yard Studios site director Fiona Francombe added: “This is the first children’s TV production we’ve hosted so it’s really exciting for us.

“It has given us the opportunity to develop another part of our site into an impressive green screen studio for them. We are able to add a new genre to our portfolio while providing a Bristol home for an important show that’s commissioned out of Bristol, and uses the best in local crew and companies. It’s great to be able to forge even closer ties between The Bottle Yard and the BBC at Whiteladies Road.”

Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures is a continuation of the highly popular Andy’s Wild Adventures & Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures strand. This time Andy will not only be meeting a whole new cast of incredible dinosaurs, but also some of the prehistoric animals that followed in their footsteps, including the giant woolly mammoth and the ferocious sabre toothed cats.

The Bottle Yard is largest studio in the West of England and has attracted a host of major UK and international productions, including most recently BBC One dramas Poldark and Sherlock, BBC Two drama Wolf Hall and Disney/ABC Studios’ musical comedy Galavant.
