Four promotions at Barcan+Kirby ‘reflect firm’s core focus on staff development’

Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby has appointed a new partner, senior associate and two associates in its annual fee-earner promotions.

Salma Maqsood’s promotion from senior associate to partner brings the firm’s partnership to 17 and maintains its gender balance.

Salma joined Barcan+Kirby in 2018 as an associate in its commercial property department. She recently became a Law Society Social Mobility Ambassador and was instrumental in creating the equality, diversity and inclusion committee at Barcan+Kirby, which won the Business Award for Gender at the Bristol Diversity Awards in 2019.

Fiona Dabell has been promoted to senior associate in the firm’s medical negligence team. Prior to becoming a solicitor, she was a registered general nurse and underwent specialist training in oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Fiona, who was named Bristol Law Society Junior Lawyer of the Year in 2017, works on cases including injuries from sepsis, meningitis and the delayed diagnosis of cancer.

The firm’s newly appointed associates are John Holdsworth from the Court of Protection team and Charlotte Tracy from the medical negligence team.

John joined Barcan+Kirby in 2016 and works solely on adult protection and Lasting Powers of Attorney, he is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

Charlotte joined two years ago as a solicitor and has experience in cases involving amputation, surgical error and fatal accidents.

It won Law Firm of the Year (under 20 Partners) title at the Bristol Law Society Awards 2019.
