Four more new joiners boost Smith & Williamson’s Bristol office

National accountancy firm Smith & Williamson has welcomed four new arrivals to its Bristol office across a range of teams and levels of seniority.

James Barrell has become an associate director in Smith & Williamson’s assurance and business services team, joining from RSM’s Bristol office where he spent nearly eight years as a senior manager. Prior to that he worked in Grant Thornton’s office in Bristol for six years as an audit manager. 

Karen Baber has joined Smith & Williamson as a senior manager in business outsourcing services from BDO’s Bristol office, where she spent four years in a similar role. Before that she worked for regional accountancy firm Milsted Langdon’s Bristol office.

Meanwhile, Dimitri Kyriazis has become a graduate trainee in pension audit and Danielle Rolt a trainee chartered accountant.

More than 30 people have joined Smith & Williamson in Bristol in recent months, while there has also been a raft of senior appointments and promotions.

These include Zoe Thomas as head of business tax, Louise Thornhill as head of investment management and Nigel Hardy as head of assurance and business services.

Promotions include Kelly Jones as partner in assurance and business services (ABS), with Helen Bassett and Marcus Graham being made directors in ABS and transaction services respectively.

Most recently, head of VAT and real estate David Gage has been appointed a director.

Nigel Hardy said: “James Barrell brings with him a vast amount of experience of auditing SMEs.

“He has worked at two major mid-tier firms and sees Smith & Williamson as the place to further his career due to its focus on working with fast-growth businesses.”

Helen Bassett, who heads the business outsourcing services team in Bristol, added: “Karen Baber is another addition to our Bristol office from a mid-tier firm and has extensive account and outsourcing experience.

“She has been taken on to strengthen our growing business outsourcing services team at a senior level.”
