South West law firm Foot Anstey has strengthened its position in the banking sector by appointing James Gliddon as a litigation partner.

James, pictured, joins the firm’s Bristol office after eight years at CMS’s base in the city, where he was most recently a senior associate.

He advises clients, including banks, financial institutions and insolvency practitioners, on a variety of financial claims and complaints, including cases relating to mis-selling, fraud and SME disputes.

He is a qualified solicitor advocate with higher rights of audience – which entitle him to represent clients in the High Court and Court of Appeal.

James said it was an exciting time to join Foot Anstey. “The financial services sector is going through a period of technological and societal reinvention and the disputes that arise often mirror these developments,” he said.

“Like the firm itself, the banking practice has always had a great reputation, but it has gone from strength to strength in recent years. I look forward to contributing to its future success.”

Foot Anstey head of litigation Mark Rhys-Jones added: “We are delighted to welcome a lawyer of James’ calibre to the partnership and to be working with him to develop our service for key banking and financial services clients.”

James is a regular presence at banking industry events and writes for a number of publications on key industry and regulatory developments.

Earlier in his career he trained with Bristol-headquartered national firm Bevan Brittan after working as a paralegal in the Bristol head offices of national firms TLT and Burges Salmon.
