National law firm Foot Anstey has been appointed by European renewable energy provider Econergy International to support its first UK battery storage project.

The energy & infrastructure team at Foot Anstey, which has an office in Bristol, will negotiate the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the project, along with service contracts, associated documents and due diligence.

Israel-headquartered Econergy operates in five countries with a number of storage installations. It also currently manages 194 projects in solar and wind development.

In January it entered the UK market by acquiring Swangate Energy Storage, a 50MW (100MWh) storage project in Yorkshire, from London-based renewables firm Yoo Energy.

The project is part of Tel Aviv stock exchange-listed Econergy’s UK pipeline of projects, which also includes more than 800MW of storage – with an expected 1600MWh capacity – and 900MW of solar PV.

The firm expects its total UK pipeline of storage and solar PV projects to be operational by 2025.

The Foot Anstey team working with Econergy includes legal director Dickon Court, managing associate Suriya Edwards and senior associate Aliki Zeri.

Dickon Court said: “Econergy is one of an exciting new generation of power production and storage entrants to the UK market, and we are extremely pleased to work with it and support the advancement of its first projects in the UK.

“This is one of several renewable battery storage projects our energy & infrastructure team has been instructed on in recent months and is the result of our team’s experience, knowledge and credentials in this area.”

Foot Anstey, whose other offices are in London, Plymouth and Taunton, is one of the UK’s fastest-growing law firms.

Energy & infrastructure is one of its six key sectors, along with developers, Islamic finance, private equity, private wealth, retail & consumer.
