Bristol-headquartered law firm Burges Salmon has appointed five new partners across key growth areas including real estate, environment, pensions and banking.

The promotions, which take effect from May 1, take the firm’s total number of partners to 85.

Burges Salmon said the move reflected the firm’s work in a number of selected markets where it is continuing to build its knowledge, experience and skills for clients.

The five new partners are Sally Jupp (real estate), Susannah Young and Alice Honeywill (pensions), Simon Tilling (projects) and Andrew Eaton, (corporate restructuring and insolvency).

Sally joined the firm in 2003 as a trainee and qualified into the real estate department in 2005. She specialises in real estate finance and corporate restructuring and insolvency for investment and development lenders.

Susannah also joined as a trainee in 2003 and qualified into the pensions team in 2005. She has substantial experience in all areas of pensions law, with a particular focus on providing trustees of both defined benefit and defined contribution schemes with clear and user-friendly advice.

Alice joined Burges Salmon as a trainee in 2005 and qualified into the pensions team in 2007. She advises on all aspects of pensions law and helps trustees and employers to run often large and complex pension schemes, covering ongoing compliance, projects and trustee training. She specialises in technical aspects of pensions law and pensions tax.”

Simon joined as a trainee in 2004 and qualified into the environment team two years later. He advises on all aspects of environmental law including operational compliance, regulatory investigations, appeals and corporate defence. He is an elected council member of the UK Environmental Law Association.

Andrew is an experienced financial services sector practitioner and joins the firm’s banking practice in the corporate restructuring and insolvency team, having previously been a partner at London corporate law firm Travers Smith.

Burges Salmon managing partner Peter Morris said: “We are very pleased to welcome these five excellent lawyers to the partnership. They will help us to grow a number of areas that are a strategic focus for us.

“Sally, Susannah, Alice and Simon are all highly competent lawyers who we have known for many years. They understand our unique model and collaborative culture, which we believe delivers the best mix of advice, service and value to clients.

“We are also delighted to welcome Andrew to the firm. The skills and expertise that he has built up over the years in this key area will complement and strengthen our corporate restructuring and insolvency team.”
