Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT has appointed Jeremy Horner as its first non-executive director. He will advise on strategy development and future growth opportunities as the firm seeks further growth in a rapidly-changing market.

Jeremy, pictured, is an experienced non-executive director with a portfolio that includes the UK patent and trademark attorneys Kilburn & Strode and, more recently, Shoosmiths, the full-service national UK law.

He is also the non-executive chairman of the remuneration committee at global construction consultancy RLB and an appointments panel member for the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).

His career spans Deloitte (then Touche Ross), Charterhouse Bank and chartered surveyors Davis Langdon, where, during his time as CFO and subsequently chief executive, the business grew through a series of acquisitions to become a $400m worldwide operation that was eventually acquired by AECOM.

Jeremy has joined the firm’s executive board with immediate effect. His appointment comes after a period of sustained growth for TLT and is part of a wider package of changes to the firm’s governance structure aimed at better enabling it to respond to business opportunities and changing client demands.

Over the past year TLT has created an executive board focused on strategy development and appointed operations director Jeff Wright to lead an operations board responsible for strategy implementation and the day-to-day running of the firm.

TLT managing partner David Pester said: “Law firm strategy is ever-evolving. We need to drive growth in a mature UK legal market and adapt the way we deliver as innovation ramps up and clients look for change.

“Jeremy’s experience fits well with where TLT is as a business and how we continue to grasp the opportunities of a changing market. He will bring an important independent perspective to the firm – particularly drawing on his experience to support with our future growth objectives and transformation programme.”

Jeremy Horner added: “TLT will be a really interesting business to work with. It is big enough to have a fantastic mix of clients in the sectors where it focuses and a broad work portfolio.

“But it remains of a size where it is agile enough to grasp some of the exciting developments in the industry to achieve real competitive advantage. Something its culture also supports. The senior leadership team is passionate about growing and building the business and I’m excited to be part of that journey.”

TLT recently announced a raft of hires to build out its presence in Scotland, including the acquisition of specialist Glasgow real estate practice Leslie Wolfson & Co.

The firm, which recently chalked up a five-year growth rate of 60%-plus with revenues of £82m, is also ramping up its transformation agenda with a £500,000 investment to drive change in the way the firm delivers legal services to clients.

TLT’s executive board includes David Pester, practice director Steve Willson, financial services sector leader Andrew Lyon, employment, pensions & incentives group head Stuart McBride, commercial group head Bill Hull, leisure sector leader Julia Lucas, banking & lender services group head Jonathan Hoey and corporate head John Wood.

The firm’s 11-strong operations board is chaired by operations director Jeff Wright and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the firm and strategy implementation. Members include representatives from each of the firm’s groups and business services directors.

TLT has more than 100 partners and employs around 1,000 people across its offices in Bristol, London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast. It also has a specialist ship finance team in Piraeus, Greece.
