Specialist building contractor Dribuild – the premium sponsor of Bath Racecourse’s winning post – has raised more than £17,000 for the Children’s Hospice South West from the course’s Summer Afternoon Raceday meeting.

The meeting on Wednesday – specially organised to support the hospice, the Keynsham-based company’s charity of the year – may now become an annual event.

Dribuild, which specialises in interior fit-out, was supported at the event by its contacts who bought hospitality tables and sponsored races, including Bristol financial advice firm Octagon Consultancy, Weston-super-Mare-based Span Roofing Contractors and Halls Dismantling & Removals, also based in Keynsham.

Children’s Hospice South West representatives collected donations in buckets and the day also featured a charity auction, a heads-or-tails game, and high-end raffle with all proceeds going to the hospice. The event was hosted by retired jockey Colin Brown, a regular rider of iconic National Hunt champion Desert Orchid.

Dribuild managing director Matt Tyler said: “We thoroughly enjoyed being the raceday sponsor at Bath Racecourse and are hoping to make it an annual event.

“We have been delighted by the support given to the Summer Afternoon Raceday and the generous donations of those in attendance. The Children’s Hospice South West is a wonderful organisation that provides a vital service to people in terrible difficulty, and we are keen to help in any way we can, including helping to raise their profile and funds to support them in their work.”

Children’s Hospice South West provides respite breaks, emergency care and end-of-life care for children who are not expected to reach adulthood. The charity also provides one-to-one specialist care for children and creates memories through fun times of play, music, outings and crafts. It supports more than 400 families with a life-limited child as well as a growing number of bereaved families.

Its corporate partnerships fundraiser Janey Hellmen said: “The efforts of Dribuild and its partners are greatly appreciated and we are grateful to the company for choosing us as its Charity of the Year.

“It is only through the generous efforts of companies like Dribuild and donations from the public that we are able to continue delivering our service to families in the region. The funds raised through the Bath Racecourse meeting will help us immensely.”
