National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed an experienced partner to its Bristol office’s serious injury team as part of its expansion strategy.

James Davies, pictured, joins from Thompsons where he was national coordinator for serious injuries.

He acts for children and adults with serious injuries, specialising in claims for head and brain injuries, spinal cord injury, amputations and fatal accidents.

James is ranked as a ‘leader in the field’ by the Chambers UK guide and is an accredited member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel and a senior litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

He is also heavily involved with national charities such as Headway, The Spinal Injuries Association and the Child Brain Injury Trust and is a member of the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum and Cerebra, a charity for children with brain conditions.

James is the fifth partner to join the personal legal services division across the country this year in addition to 18 partners in Irwin Mitchell’s business legal services team since the start of 2012.

The firm has nine offices across the UK, including Bristol, which opened three years ago.

Bristol office managing partner Jonathan Peacock said: “Recruiting James to our team shows our commitment to wider growth for the firm as a whole as we seek to achieve our goal to become the legal provider of choice.

“Our Bristol office has gone from strength to strength since we opened in 2010 and we have established a strong reputation in personal injury, court of protection and family law work. The addition of James is part of our plan to ensure we recruit the highest quality lawyers to the firm as we seek to grow further.

“James has over 15 years’ experience as a solicitor and his knowledge and expertise in helping victims of high-value catastrophic injuries will be a real boost for our growing team in the South West.”

James, who will now lead the serious injury team in Bristol, added: “Working with the team at Irwin Mitchell was a major driver in joining the firm. The personal injury department is the best in the industry and I am really looking forward to starting work.

“In this field there is a chance to have a massive positive impact on people’s lives and I’m delighted to be able to work with such an experienced and innovative team at Irwin Mitchell.”
