Regional law firm Michelmores has bolstered the real estate team in its Bristol office with the appointment of Stephen McColgan as a partner.

Stephen, pictured, has nearly 30 years’ experience in various aspects of property and development related work.

He joins Michelmores’ expanding Bristol team after 12 years at national firm Davies and Partners, where he was head of land based in its Bristol office.

At Davies and Partners he was responsible for overseeing strategic land and property deals, acting on behalf of a number of FTSE 100 clients.

He has acted for a number of the top 10 housebuilders and specialises in dealing with complex strategic land assembly, and the property issues within consortiums and joint venture projects. He also acts for private developers and property investors.

Prior to joining Davies and Partners, Stephen trained and was made partner in the Bristol office of national firm Clarke Willmott.

Michelmores head of real estate, Emma Honey, said: “Stephen comes to us with exceptional knowledge and experience, strengthening our real estate offering in Bristol.

“We are very pleased to welcome him at this time of growth for our Real Estate team.”

Also joining the firm as partner is Chris Hoar, who has become head of construction and engineering, based in its Exeter office.

Chris brings more than two decades of expertise in advising clients on construction, engineering and other infrastructure projects across the supply chain both nationally and internationally. In addition to his transactional work, he has very strong experience in all types of construction and engineering dispute resolution.

Highlights during the course of his career has been work undertaken on the construction and development of the new Hong Kong International Airport and a number of major disputes on World Bank-funded road projects in Central Europe.

He trained and previously worked at Allen & Overy in London before spending 11 years at niche construction and engineering firm Shadbolt & Co, where he was made partner and then head of contentious construction. He arrives at Michelmores from South West firm Foot Anstey, where he was a partner and head of construction, based in its Exeter office.

Michelmores head of London real estate Paul Paling added: “The appointment of a further two partners to the real estate team reflects the continued growth of our  practice, as we expand to meet the needs of an ever-increasing number of large, specialist instructions in this area.

“Chris and Stephen are significant hires, adding valuable knowledge and niche skillsets to our existing teams and we are delighted to welcome them both.”

Michelmores, which opened its Bristol office three years ago, also has an office in London.
