Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT has continued to strengthen its UK-wide corporate team with the appointment of Philip Barratt as partner.

Philip, pictured, joins from Cardiff and London firm Capital Law, where he became partner in 2019, having previously held positions at Eversheds Sutherland and Addleshaw Goddard in London.

He brings a wealth of experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&As) – both in the UK and internationally – with a particular focus on private equity. His appointment follows the busiest year ever for TLT’s corporate practice.

Philip will work closely with the firm’s financial services sector team, advising clients on acquisitions, disposals, investments, joint ventures and governance arrangements, as well as corporate re-organisations and general corporate advice.

He also brings valuable private equity experience and in-house insight, having spent time on secondment to AnaCap Financial Partners, a financial services-focused private equity fund, where he supported the mergers and acquisitions investment team with a number of high-profile sales and acquisitions.

Ranked as an ‘up-and-coming’ lawyer in legal director Chambers and Partners this year, Philip was also named as a ‘next generation partner in The Legal 500 in 2021 and 2022.

TLT partner and corporate team head Andrew Webber said Philip’s considerable experience working with clients on private equity and M&A transactions, particularly in the financial services sector, would complement and strengthen the firm’s senior capability in what are some of the busiest areas for the practice.

“He joins a number of other new recruits into the team over the last year, and we’re looking forward to supporting our clients and the wider adviser networks in what will likely be another busy period,” he added.

Philip Barratt said he was delighted to join TLT’s corporate team as it worked with an impressive range of clients.

“The more I got to know the firm, the more apparent it became that we share the same values and solution-focused, pragmatic approach to supporting clients,“ he said.

“Working alongside colleagues from across the firm, I’m looking forward to not only building on my strong relationships but also supporting the continued growth and development of the corporate team.”

TLT, which won the Law Firm of the Year title at The Lawyer Awards 2021, employs more than 140 partners and around 1,200 people across its seven offices.
