Bristol independent restaurant and cocktail bar group Hyde & Co, whose venues include The Milk Thistle, Pata Negra, The OX and Bambalan, has chosen city-based charity PHASE Worldwide for its Christmas Appeal 2017.

The charity, based in St Pauls, will benefit from donations and collections for the whole of December. Diners across Hyde & Co’s portfolio will be able to add just £1 to their bill during the month – with all money raised matched pound-for-pound by the company.

PHASE Worldwide was launched in 2005 by Nick and Maria Cragg and Dr Gerda Pohl. Since then a huge number of volunteers have spent time in Nepal helping and improving the quality of formal education services for children and adults in deprived rural communities.

They provide education on better health and hygiene practices, high-quality primary healthcare services, help communities develop safer and more sustainable water supply infrastructures, and, assist affected communities recover from the devastating earthquakes of 2015.

The charity’s patrons are actor and mountaineer Brian Blessed and author, adventurer and marathon runner Rosie Swale Pope.

Hyde & Co director Nathan Lee said: “As a socially responsible organisation we support the work that goes on in our community. The work of the small team here on the ground at PHASE in Bristol and in the UK struck a chord with us.

“PHASE is not a huge charity and through their work in Nepal with GP volunteers and other volunteer experts from Bristol, they make a difference.

“Bambalan [pictured] is a great community venue and we hope that people coming in to have a drink at the bar, or a sit-down meal with colleagues, friends or family will support this year’s appeal.”

PHASE Worldwide is the latest charity to be supported by Hyde & Co this year. It has also helped raise funds for Frank Water, The Rainbow Centre, The Southmead Project and will support Penny Brohn Cancer Care Campaign 2018 and International Women’s Day Celebration 2018.
