Bristol-based digital design firm Nomensa is continuing its expansion with the opening of an office in Amsterdam, its first on mainland Europe.

The firm, which combines experience in psychology, research, interaction design and technology to create ground-breaking digital experiences, has been operating in Amsterdam for the past two years working with international clients Liberty Global and Atradius.

However, increasing demand from businesses for digital transformation and a growing client base has led the firm to set up a formal base in the Dutch capital.

Nomensa’s 90-strong team is spread across its offices in Bristol, London and now Amsterdam and works on strategic user experience (UX) projects with organisations such as Virgin Media, Sky, the National Trust, the Royal Mail, the British Red Cross and the NHS as well as other leading brands.

As well as designing and improving clients’ online experiences it also transforms them, through greater accessibility and usability.

The Amsterdam office will be headed by Katelijn van Lieshout, pictured, who joins from global advertising and PR group Publicis’ base in the city.

Nomensa managing director Sally Lincoln said: “We are excited to be widening our European footprint and bringing all that we stand for, how we operate and what we believe to a new market.

“Building strong relationships with businesses and people within the industry in Amsterdam has played a key role in our decision-making. Having discovered more about the Dutch market over the last few years we felt that it would be a great base to support organisations operating in the region.

“We identified a clear gap in the market in terms of understanding the full potential of UX and digital transformation. Traditionally UX has been delivered by digital agencies and not specialists – and this is where Nomensa’s unique skill set, and expertise in accessibility in particular, has been able to add ‘business value’ to those that we work and collaborate with.

“Over the past few years Amsterdam has quickly become a heavyweight in the global tech arena and is investing heavily in building and growing its digital community.  The city is rising quickly as a significant place to do digital business and our new office will further help to solidify Amsterdam’s reputation as a growing digital hub.

“We are looking forward to settling in to our new office and have ambitious growth plans – looking to build the team to roughly 30 experts over the next two years.”

Nomensa was established in 2001 and has gone from strength to strength and over the past five years, more than doubling its team.
