Bristol businesses’ record on discrimination and race equality in the workplace will come under the spotlight this evening at a high-profile question time style debate and panel discussion.

Employment opportunities will be included along with crime, education and other issues at the event, staged as the final meeting in Bristol of the End Racism This Generation campaign.

On the panel will be Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson, Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens, Bristol’s first female Somali councillor Hibaq Jama and community consultant and Ujima Radio presenter Roger Griffith.

The event, at the Victoria Rooms, Clifton, is organised jointly by Runnymede Trust, the UK’s leading independent race equality think tank, and The Great Debate Tour.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the panelists what they are doing to address problems in Bristol linked to racism and how the city can do better.

The End Racism This Generation campaign aims to raise awareness of racism and race inequality in the UK and encourage individuals and organisations to take actions in their own lives, workplaces and communities to tackle the problem.

The three-year public awareness and advocacy campaign, led by Runnymede, aims to inspire action to tackle racial inequality, support people to work together in new ways to tackle racism and create lasting solutions to racial injustice so that the next generation will live in a fair, just and equal society.

A pop-up shop in the Galleries has brought the message to shoppers and been the venue for a number of meetings, seminars and debates.

This evening’s event runs from 7pm to 8.30pm. For more information go to http://www.end-racism.org/event/great-debate-tour-race-and-politics-special/#sthash.OgLmfpC6.dpuf
