The Bristol Hippodrome and At-Bristol Science Centre have been named as finalists in the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2015.

At-Bristol is among five venues shortlisted in the Sustainable Tourism Award category while the Hippodrome is competing for the Access for All Tourism award.

This year’s VisitEngland Awards attracted 345 applications across 17 categories spanning business tourism, holiday parks, pubs, hotels, attractions and events.

All finalists are guaranteed to receive a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended award.

The awards ceremony takes place on May 11 at the landmark Sage live music venue in Gateshead. It will be the first time the awards have been staged in the North East.

Destination Bristol head of tourism Kathryn Davis said: “We are thrilled that both At-Bristol Science Centre and the Bristol Hippodrome have been named finalists.  Both remain as popular as ever with visitors and it is wonderful that they have received recognition for their work.

“It is particularly apt that in the year when Bristol celebrates being the European Green Capital, At-Bristol are recognised for their work in sustainability. The Bristol Hippodrome has worked tirelessly to ensure the theatre becomes accessible to all visitors and are now being rewarded for their commitment.”

The Bristol Hippodrome access manager Trish Hodson added: “Over the last 20 years we have continued to develop and improve our access service and facilities at the Hippodrome. It is a central focus across all departments at the venue and we hope that all of our access patrons who have supported us over these many years will be as delighted as we are with this recognition.”
