Bristol firms, organisations and community groups are to share their inspirational stories about the projects they are undertaking to decarbonise when a national Zero Carbon Tour arrives in the city next week.

Visitors to Planet Mark’s carbon battle bus, pictured, which will stop at UWE Bristol’s Frenchay campus on Friday, will also be given advice on how they can take immediate action and cut their own carbon emissions.

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and UWE will host the Bristol leg of the Zero Carbon Tour between 12-4pm on Friday September 10.

The stop is one of 17 across the UK before the battle bus – the UK’s first 100% electric coach – heads to the UN’s Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in November.

The roadshow aims to share the net zero message with the business community and raise awareness of the UN Race to Zero and the UK’s #TogetherForOurPlanet campaigns.

Attendees will also be able to find out more about the initiatives available across the region, such as the West of England Low Carbon Challenge Fund, to support their journey to net zero.

West of England Mayor Dan Norris, who heads WECA, said: “The climate emergency is humanity’s most urgent crisis, and across the West of England we all need to play a part in beating it.

“I look forward to officially welcoming the Zero Carbon Tour as it rolls into the West of England, and to seeing how it supports the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone locally to meet our ambitious goal of net zero carbon by 2030.

“I hear there will be carbon clinics followed later by free Net Zero Essentials workshops giving proven and practical tips and explaining what support is on offer on how best to go about it.

“The climate and biodiversity emergency is urgent – I’m determined to make sure our region is doing its bit to tackle it.”

WECA’s new group-buying scheme, Solar Together West of England, is now live and may be suitable for some businesses. For more information visit www.solartogether.co.uk/west-of-england

Examples of sustainability action gathered during the tour will be showcased at COP26 to inspire others to create similar initiatives around the world. To book a place on the Zero Carbon Tour, click here
