A sketch by Bristol animator Nick Park of his Oscar-winning characters Wallace and Gromit has raised more than £6,000 for youth charity The Prince’s Trust.

The 210cms by 295cms watercolour and ink on paper drawing Wallace Pours The Tea was among works from more than 70 renowned artists auctioned last night in Bath. Expected to go for between £3,000 and £5,000, it fetched £6,100 after competitive bidding at the event.. Filmmaker Nick Park has been a Prince's Trust ambassador for more than 15 years.

The Evening of Art also featured a silkscreen and photo collage of Venice by pop artist Sir Peter Blake CBE and work donated by children’s illustrator Sir Quentin Blake CBE and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.

Christies’ contemporary art expert Tom Best conducted a live auction, which included the Wallace & Gromit sketch. Earlier at the event guests were given touch-screen tablets to use for a silent auction.

Sponsors and supporters of the event are law firm Withy King, Coutts & Co, The Roper Family Charitable Trust and ResideBath.

The Prince’s Trust works helps disadvantaged young people get the skills and confidence to find a job. Three in four young people helped by The Trust move into work, training or education.
