Southmead Police Station has been sold to Care UK Partnerships, one of UK’s largest independent care home providers, for a sum in excess of £2.3m.

Avon & Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner closed the station earlier this year following the decision to rationalise and modernise the force’s facilities.

It has been temporarily replaced with a mobile police station at Southmead Fire Station on the opposite side of the road.  A search for a site for a new station is under way.

Care UK Partnerships acquired the freehold interest to redevelop the site, pictured, into a state-of-the art 66-bedroom care home. Planning permission was granted last December following an appeal.

Nic Rumble of selling agents Hartnell Taylor Cook said: “We are delighted to have assisted in the sale of this successful transaction on behalf of Avon and Somerset Police. The purchase by Care UK followed strong interest and large number of enquiries from both traditional and alternative sector markets.

“The competitive bidding was illustrative of the demand for the highest quality care home sites and the proposed scheme will provide nursing respite and dementia care in response to a strong local market demand for high quality later life facilities.”
