The corporate and pension teams at Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon have been shortlisted in four categories of two different award schemes.

The pensions team hope to win a hattrick at the Professional Pensions’ UK Pensions Awards while the corporate team is in the running for the Legal Advisor of the Year title at Nexus Media Group’s annual awards.

Recognised as the most prestigious awards scheme in the pensions industry, the Professional Pensions’ UK Pensions Awards celebrate the advisers, providers and investment managers offering unparalleled innovation, performance and service to occupational pension schemes and their members, and those that have endeavoured to improve this offering over the past year.

Burges Salmon is a finalist in the Pension Lawyers of the Year, Pensions Litigation Firm of the Year and Educational and Thought Leadership Initiative of the Year categories, the last for its pension schemes ESG tool.

The firm said its three shortlistings were testament to its work advising on both complex and commonplace legal issues for its clients and its commitment to establishing innovative and efficient ways of responding to the changing market.

The 26th annual awards, which will be announced in 1 June, have been judged by a panel of senior scheme managers, trustees and advisers.

Burges Salmon head of pensions Richard Knight, pictured right, said: “I’m delighted the firm has been recognised for its commitment and expertise with our second industry accolade shortlisting of the year; this time at the UK Pensions Awards 2023.

“We have continued to work with real diligence and dedication over the past year. We are particularly proud of our ESG tool and the recognition this has received by us being the only law firm finalist in the Educational and Thought Leadership Initiative of the Year category.”

The firm has also hailed its appearance again in the Legal Advisor of the Year – Deal-making category at the EducationInvestor Awards.

The awards, staged by Nexus Media Group, recognise achievements in the business of education and celebrate the very best across categories including advisory & finance, education provision and software & services.

The corporate team’s nomination is for advising on a number of key deals in the sector over the past year, including acting for the founder shareholders on the sale of Firebrand Training to BPP and advising Gemba on its investment from New York-based Parkway Venture Capital, as well as continuing to work directly with the Department for Education on a range of projects.

Most recently, it advised the shareholders of The Safeguarding Company on its acquisition by Tes, a leading international provider of digital solutions to schools.

Burges Salmon corporate team director Tim Roberts, pictured above, said: “To be named as an EducationInvestor 2023 finalist is great and reflects another busy year for deals in the education sector. We are delighted to have been able to work on a number of those and to help our clients take their businesses into the next stage of their development.”

The EducationInvestor Awards 2023 take place on 14 June in London.

Burges Salmon employs around 1,000 people in its Bristol HQ and London and Edinburgh offices.
