Property consultancy JLL’s Bristol team has raised more than £12,000 for homelessness organisation Julian Trust – its charity of the year for 2016.

The JLL team raised £12,355 over the course of the year by hosting a range of fundraising events including the Contractors’ Quest in September – a treasure hunt around Clifton for contractors employed by JLL – which alone netted more than £8,000.

Among other activities were a bake-off, dress-down days, a pool night, an ‘Olympics’ and a Euro 2016 sweepstake

Julian Trust volunteers have been providing emergency shelter to homeless people for 30 years funded entirely by public donations.

Julian Trust treasurer Richard Drake said: “On top of generous donations of food and clothing it still costs us about £1,500 per week to run the shelter. So a generous donation such as that from JLL will pay our running costs for a couple of months.

“It is a great shame to society that we need to provide such shelters for homeless people who would otherwise be on our streets, but it is encouraging that the public respond so generously to their immediate needs.”

Head of JLL’s Bristol office, Simon Peacock, added: “Julian Trust is a fantastic charity that makes a real difference to people’s lives. We are thrilled we’ve been able to raise £12,000 for this worthwhile cause and are grateful to everyone involved in making these fundraising activities happen.”

JLL Bristol’s charity of the year for 2017 is Smile with Siddy, a Bristol charity supporting children with neuroblastoma, a rare cancer, with some staff already lining up a cycling challenge from Bristol to Dublin as part of the year’s events.
