More snow is expected to fall on Bristol this evening, the Met Office has forecast.

Light snow is set to appear at around 6pm and due to last, and get heavier, throughout the following 12 to 18 hours. Some 2-5cm (1-2in) is likely in places in the region with a risk of as much as 5-10cm (2-4in) and more on high ground.

Warnings have been issued for more ice overnight, which will make driving conditions treacherous once again.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing and could feel as low as -5C.

The new snow follows light flurries and light rain which fell onto frozen ground overnight.

Most public transport operated yesterday morning although there were delays and some cancellations. First and Wessex buses both said they were staging normal services and train services were operating with some delays.

Most schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire reopened after more than 220 were closed on Friday.

Bristol Airport said all flights were operating as normal with the exception of the Paris Charles de Gaulle route.

Meanwhile, Bristol City Council said refuse collections took place as usual as contractors attempted to deal with the backlog caused by Friday’s snow.
