Bristol’s tallest building reaches new heights as occupiers move in

Two firms have taken space in Bristol’s tallest building – the 17-storey city centre Castlemead office block – following a major refurbishment.

Digital TV Labs, the world’s largest independent digital TV testing company, is now occupying the entire fourth floor, totalling 7,600 sq ft, while a further 5,000 sq ft has been let by serviced office provider MWB Business Exchange to extend its existing base in Castlemead.

The deals were secured by the Bristol offices of property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle jointly with Hartnell Taylor Cook.

Castlemead, which overlooks the Cabot Circus shopping centre, has been fully refurbished since being acquired by property management group F&C Reit last year as part of a £120m, multi-property deal.

Digital TV Labs director Owen Byrne said: “Castlemead offers prestigious offices in a very central location and will provide us with the space to grow and develop new ideas which is essential for us as a specialist in our field. The move will help us attract the high calibre staff we require.”

London-based MWB Business Exchange said it had taken further space to cope with demand for its flexible workplace solutions.

Hannah Waterhouse, associate director in Jones Lang LaSalle’s Bristol office agency team said: “These two deals provide a welcome boost to Bristol’s office market, especially given the time of year. We are also seeing considerable interest in other available space throughout Castlemead, which strikes an optimistic note for the end of 2012.”

Refurbishment work has included a new reception to provide a spacious waiting area with plasma screen TV and a new digital tenant directory. Other work will include updating the approach to the building, creating additional showers and refurbishing the 16th and 17th floors to provide flexible penthouse-style office accommodation.
