Specialists in computer science and creative technologies from UWE have confirmed their support for the inaugural Bristol Fintech showcase next week.

Entrepreneurs, start-ups and growth businesses still have an opportunity to secure a place at the event next Wednesday, November 23, which has been organised by Barclays, national law firm Clarke Willmott, Deepbridge Capital, Bristol-based investment giant Hargreaves Lansdown and accountants PwC.

Dr Paul Matthews and Dr Bala Goudar from UWE’s Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies will join financial services and tech innovators from the fast-emerging financial technology field to outline latest thinking from around the sector.

Clarke Willmott Partner Philippa Hann said: “UWE has an ongoing Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).

“The project is aimed at developing technology solutions for investment decision support and portfolio analytics. Paul and Bala will be discussing the project and their current research on enhancing the adviser-client relationship with digital tools.”

Paul and colleagues will also be on hand to inform delegates of the various ways that they can collaborate with the university on their own projects through mechanisms such as KTPs, collaborative research and consultancy.

Philippa added: “Bristol FinTech came about as a result of a frustration that much of the research into financial technologies is focused in London. The aim is to bring together and support financial services and tech innovators, entrepreneurs, start-ups and growth businesses and put them in touch with researchers from the West.”

Practical lessons from the front line will be shared by successful fintech individuals and organisations, with support and inspiration available across a wide range of areas including launching and growing a business, raising funds, protecting intellectual property, managing finances and tax, and marketing communications.

The event is at Clarke Willmott’s Bristol office with speakers and workshop leaders drawn from across the fintech and commercial spectrum.

Anyone wishing to attend the event can register via the Bristol FinTech website www.bristolfintech.com
