The fast growth of Bristol-headquartered law firm TLT has been recognised in one of the legal industry’s top awards.

The firm was named National/Regional Firm of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2013, following what the judges called bold strategic moves into Scotland and Northern Ireland.

TLT, led by managing partner David Pester, pictured, represents “the epitome of a well-managed firm characterised by consistent and steady growth,” said the judges at last night’s awards, sponsored by Legal Business magazine.

“In 2012 TLT took the bold move of using its profit to finance strategic expansion in Scotland and Northern Ireland, while still posting revenue growth,” said the commendation.

Simon Beswick, CEO of Bristol law firm Osborne Clarke was shortlisted in the Management Partner of the Year category.

Teams from Bristol law firm Burges Salmon were highly commended in two categories: Energy & Natural Resources Team of the Year and Competition Team of the Year.

In Energy, Burges Salmon’s multi-disciplinary team was recognised for its stand-out work for the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) on a major competitive dialogue for the decommissioning of Britain’s second largest nuclear site at Dounreay in Caithness, Scotland. Burges Salmon was highly commended along with: Eversheds, Herbert Smith Freehills, Norton Rose, Shearman & Sterling, SNR Denton and White & Case.

In Competition, the firm’s work advising transport operator Cardiff Bus on its successful defence of a number of substantial claims brought against it before the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) saw it placed among other highly commended firms: Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, SJ Berwin and Slaughter & May.

Peter Morris, managing partner, said: “These were both complex and challenging pieces of work which saw us combining our technical expertise with an in-depth knowledge of each client’s industry sector.

“It is very satisfying to receive this recognition for the calibre of our work on a national stage and to be shortlisted among some of the best firms in the UK legal sector.”

Irwin Mitchell, the national law firm with an office in Bristol, was highly commended in the Private Client of the Year category.
