The DoubleTree by Hilton, Bristol City Centre, hotel is to extend its conference and meeting rooms and add further bedrooms as demand continues to spiral in the city.

The four-star hotel in Redcliffe Way said there had been a “significant upturn” in its conference business recently while room occupancy rates had also increased as more tourists and corporate travellers head to the city.

The £500,000 extension will include a new ground-floor conference facility that can be used either as two separate meeting rooms or as one individual room that will host 150 delegates. There will also be a state-of-the-art break-out room.

The reception floor will feature a further two smaller meeting rooms that can be combined to accommodate up to 120 people. There will also be a boardroom for meetings with up to 14 people opening onto an outside covered terrace area.

Five standard double bedrooms will be created on the first floor, taking the hotel’s total number to 205.

Hotel general manager John Dowling said: “It’s good news for the hotel and also good news for Bristol that we can progress with the extension of the facilities.

“The last couple of years have, in general, seen confidence improve right across the business community. This has helped the rise of conference bookings.

“An improved awareness of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand and its offer, compounded by an appetite from both business and leisure travellers to visit Bristol and stay in quality accommodation has also helped increase business.

“We’re also seeing an increase in conference and event bookers looking outside the traditional locations across the UK. This has been helped by Bristol’s increase in exposure with events such as the Shaun the Sheep trail and its European Green Capital status helping push awareness.”

Work on the extension is due to start in the New Year and finish by April.
