Lawyers from national firm Bond Dickinson’s Bristol office have advised on the merger of two leading independent girls’ day schools in the city.

The firm worked with Redland High School for Girls in its merger with The Red Maids’ School to form Redmaids’ High School.

The Bond Dickinson team was led by client partner Joanne Rumley and charities expert Alexandra Casley. Support came from experts across the firm specialising in education, including corporate, banking, employment, charities, property and private wealth.

Joanne Rumley, pictured, said: “This merger provides a one-off opportunity and creates an exciting, forward-looking, sustainable school with outstanding facilities and a passion to provide exceptional education for its pupils.

“We are very pleased to have been invited to work on the merger which has been important for the Bristol community; a key focus for Bond Dickinson.”

The trustees of Redland High School for Girls decided on the merger to enable it to keep pace in the competitive independent school sector, particularly in Bristol.

With a larger site and increased number of pupils the facilities can be further developed ensuring pupils have more opportunities open to them.

Redland High School chair of governors Dr T Chambers said: “The merger was a complex task with many legal and other aspects.

“We very much enjoyed working with all the team at Bond Dickinson who were thoughtful, able and committed to the deal. We are delighted that the merger has now completed to the agreed timescale.”

The education team at Bond Dickinson has worked with education providers and suppliers, ranging from universities, FE colleges, independent schools, academy trusts and free schools, through to local authorities, governing bodies, diocesan trustees and boards of education as well as suppliers to the sector.

Bond Dickinson has offices in London, Aberdeen, Leeds, Newcastle, Plymouth, and Southampton as well as Bristol.
