Innovative Bristol firms Phineas Group and Limbs & Things have teamed up to create medical products that are already having a major impact in training healthcare professionals worldwide.

Phineas Group, which specialises in designing and manufacturing a wide range of plastic shoe hangers and display products, has expanded into the injection moulding business for third-party manufacturers.

Using its state-of-the-art plastic injection moulding factory in Bristol, it has partnered with Limbs & Things, which makes quality medical training products, to sustainably manufacture a range of medical training models.

The two have worked together from product design to production of the PROMPT Flex Birthing Simulator – a realistic training model for healthcare professionals to acquire the delicate skills required to perform routine and difficult childbirth scenarios.

Developed in collaboration with clinicians at Southmead Hospital and the PROMPT Maternity Foundation, the birthing simulator provides hands-on practice for medical professionals in maternity units worldwide.

It allows for an ultra-realistic training experience which has enabled healthcare professionals to practice and develop skills that are invaluable for improved patient outcomes.

Phineas Group managing director Dan Wright said: “The partnership between Phineas Group and Limbs & Things has enabled the production of models which have been praised for their innovation and the positive impact they have had on medical training for healthcare professionals. We’re proud to be part of such a partnership and hope to be able to contribute to ground-breaking designs in the future.”

Limbs and Things operations director Ray Braso added: “We pride ourselves on the high quality of the products we create and to work alongside Phineas, another Bristol-based company, to create our new generation of birthing simulators has been great. The success of the PROMPT Flex  is testament to the care we put into ensuring our models really can make a difference.  By reshoring the production to the UK, we can now receive products within a two-week lead time as opposed to the 8-10 weeks from China.”
