Long-running Bristol content marketing firm Strategy Digital has been acquired by Fat Media, one of the largest digital marketing agencies in the North of England.

Based in Lancaster and with an office in London, Fat Media employs 93 people working on household brands such as Typhoo, OCS, Samsung, Jessops and JD Sports.

Strategy provides content marketing, social media, SEO, PPC, digital PR, blogger engagement, training and website audits to clients including Tanners Wine Merchants, Woodhouse Clothing, Thomson Local Market Location and K International. It employs 39 staff at its base in Brislington.

Fat Media bought it from founding owner John Courtney and his wife – and business partner – Kath Dawson. Mr Courtney will step down as executive chairman while Ms Dawson remains as a insight and planning director.

Fat Media owner David Durnford said: “I’m delighted to welcome Strategy Digital into the Fat Media family. We have been really impressed with the team. Their enthusiasm and expertise will help us to further build our social and search capabilities within Fat Media, as well as providing the foundation for a full-service digital offering based in Bristol to complement our offices in Lancaster and London.”

Mr Courtney added: “I’m thrilled to be placing the business I have built up over the past two decades in the very capable and creative hands of Fat Media. Together the agencies will be a powerful force in the world of digital marketing in both the North and South of the country. ”

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
