Construction group Bouygues UK has appointed John Boughton, the former deputy managing director of rival Willmott Dixon in Wales and the South West, as its managing director for the same region.

John, pictured, has worked in the industry for more than 30 years, four of them at Willmott Dixon, where he was instrumental in helping it grow into a £200m business in the region.

Prior to that he worked with various construction contractors, including Sir Robert McAlpine, Tarmac, Pearce Group (now ISG) and Unite, the Bristol-based student accommodation group.

Bouygues UK is a major player in the South West’s construction industry with current key projects in the region including Castle Park View, the 26-storey, 375-home tower that will be Bristol’s tallest residential building, and the University of Bath’s  £70m School of Management, which will include two laboratories, eight lecture theatres and a 250-seat conference auditorium.

It is also building a new innovation campus in Cardiff.

John said: “Bouygues UK has a great reputation in Wales and the West and I’m looking forward to cementing that status and pushing the business forward to be the contractor of choice for customers in the region.”

Bouygues UK CEO Rob Bradley added: “John’s track record speaks for itself. His knowledge of the construction landscape in the area, but particularly the South West, is unrivalled.

“I look forward to working closely with John to grow the business in the region, to enhance the offering Bouygues UK provides to projects and further develop our already great team within Wales and the South West.”

Bouygues UK, which has its South West office at Bradley Stoke, is a division of French industrial group Bouygues. It has bases in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff as well as Bristol and an annual turnover of £750m.
