A dinner hosted by the Bristol-based private client team of accountants Smith & Williamson has raised more than £8,000 for the Bristol and North Somerset branch of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT).

More than 80 supporters of the charity attended the annual fund-raising dinner, which was co-sponsored by law firms Michelmores and property agents Knight Frank, both of which have offices in Bristol.

The Gourmet Game Dinner was held at Bristol’s oldest existing private members’ club, The Clifton Club, and included grouse and venison supplied by GWCT members.

Guest speaker was the Earl of Kilmorey, Sir Richard Needham, the former Conservative Northern Ireland minister and North Wiltshire MP, followed by a charity auction and raffle.

GWCT branch chairman Jerry Barnes, who is also head of private client tax services at Smith & Williamson’s Bristol office, said: “The trust performs a vital role in maintaining our countryside and improving its biodiversity through the development of effective game and wildlife management techniques.

“The GWCT advises Government and helps inform farming and environmental policies, and we are delighted to have raised significant funds for the charity through our annual branch dinner. We would like to thank the members, sponsors and donors for their generosity.”
