The Bristol offices of accountants and business advisers Baker Tilly and law firm Bond Pearce have successful worked on an acquisition deal involving two Swindon firms.

Under the deal pioneering housing and regeneration agency GreenSquare Group acquired heating contractor and consultant G W Sparrow.

GreenSquare was formed in April 2008 and includes housing associations Oxford Citizens and Westlea, commercial subsidiary Oakus Estates and in-house construction firm Tidestone. It also works in partnership with designer Kevin McCloud’s company Hab in the joint venture Hab Oakus.

Family-owned G W Sparrow was established in 1974 and provides plumbing and heating services across Wiltshire. Managing director Robert Sparrow will continue to head the business as it develops further as part of GreenSquare’s Oakus subsidiary.

Lead corporate finance adviser on the sale was Baker Tilly corporate finance partner Nick Harber. He said: “GreenSquare’s acquisition of G W Sparrow is a good reflection of its capability and patience to complete a transaction in spite of the uncertain economic conditions. With future investment in the business, G W Sparrow will be an excellent addition to GreenSquare’s services.”

Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group, which has an office in Bristol, triumphed at the Insolvency & Rescue Awards in London, scooping the award for Corporate Recovery Firm of the Year (mid-sized firm) for the second time. The insolvency experts first took the prize in 2008, when the awards scheme, which honours the industry’s highest achievers, was launched.

The group, which specialises in assisting SMEs experiencing financial distress with a service-led strategy, increased turnover by 15% this year, opened its new Bristol office and managed to secure £5m in funding to finance its expansion plans. As part of that, the firm is also set to open several new offices in the coming months.
