A team from Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon has advised leading brick manufacturer Michelmersh on its latest acquisition.

The group, which owns most of the UK’s premium brick brands and is a leading specification brick and clay paving manufacturer, took over manufacturer FabSpeed for an undisclosed sum.

The deal is the latest in a long line of acquisitions for West Sussex-based Michelmersh. The group has expanded through acquisition as well as organic growth since it was launched in 1997 and today produces more than 120m clay bricks and pavers a year.

The acquisition of FabSpeed further grows Michelmersh’s portfolio of premium products and services, increasing its ability to optimise and grow its construction product offering.

It will also benefit from FabSpeed’s complementary customer base and distribution channels, enabling it to offer a broader product portfolio and enhanced routes to market.

Oxfordshire-based FabSpeed, which was formed from the merger of LiteSpeed and Fab-Lite in 2020, supplies many of the UK’s largest housing developers.

The Burges Salmon team advising on the deal was led by corporate finance partner Dominic Davis, alongside senior associate Bethan Penrhyn-Jones, associate Rebecca Brown, solicitor Ellen Robinson and trainee Isabel Rawlings.

Dominic, pictured, said: “Once again we have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Michelmersh team and helping to secure this important addition to the group’s portfolio.”

Michelmersh chief financial officer Ryan Mahoney added: “FabSpeed is a great addition to the Michelmersh Group, enabling us to create a leading business in both clay and prefabricated products.

“Dominic and the broader Burges Salmon team provided invaluable legal expertise and advisory support throughout all stages of the process and the board and the executive team are hugely appreciative of their professionalism and diligence in helping us successfully close this important strategic acquisition of FabSpeed.”
