Bristol PR and events agency Brandon Hill Communications has been granted ISO 14001 in recognition of its ethical standards, including its commitment to recycling, fuel-efficient company cars and a green supply chain.

The award follows Clifton-based Brandon Hill’s successful assessment by the UKAS accredited certification body, ISOQAR.

ISO 14001 is recognised across the globe and denotes organisations operating to high ethical standards while balancing profitability with its environmental impact.

To attain accreditation, organisations must assess how their operations affect the environment and devise a system to limit their impact

Brandon Hill committed itself to follow best business practice and keep abreast of relevant legislation while taking ethical and responsible interest in environmental concerns relevant to its operations.

Managing director Ian Muir said: “When designing our environmental management system, we considered ourselves primarily an office-based business.

“What surprised us most was the amount of paper we were using. Now we’re very careful about what we print and we’re strict about recycling – not only paper but also print cartridges, all plastics, tins, glass and cardboard.

“We also now follow a strict supplier application process, sending environmental questionnaires to any new suppliers to ensure a green supply chain.

“Finally, we reviewed our travel policy, choosing to make maximum use of conference calls and Skype when communicating with clients long distance. We also ensured company cars were fuel efficient and encouraged staff to use alternative means of transport where possible.”
