Three new partners have been appointed by Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby in its annual round of internal promotions.

Gabrielle Artess, Laura Roberts and Helen Franklin’s appointments take the total number of partners at the firm to 19. The move also means the firm has maintained its gender-balanced partnership.

Gabrielle and Laura are solicitors and team leaders in Barcan+Kirby’s conveyancing department, which has enjoyed an exceptional few years during Bristol’s housing market boom.

Barcan+Kirby said their promotions reflected their achievements in bolstering the conveyancing team from the ground up while supporting the firm’s reputation of providing high-quality advice.

Both have worked for the firm for a number of years and have developed a strong reputation in Bristol for excellent client service and expertise in all residential conveyancing matters.

They have also established strong relationships with estate agents in the Bedminster and Bishopston areas and often receive client referrals through these connections.

Helen has worked in medical negligence for nine years, specialising in serious injury claims, including brain injury, delay in cancer diagnosis and fatal accidents.

She is listed in the Legal 500 UK 2021 and 2022 directories as a ‘rising star’ in clinical negligence, is a member of the Law Society’s clinical negligence accreditation scheme and an associate of the Association of Child Abuse lawyers.

In her new role, Helen has taken over the financial and business development objectives of the department.

Barcan+Kirby said her promotion strengthened its award-winning, top-ranked medical negligence team while also recognising her contributions to the team, the firm and the legal profession as a whole.

Barcan+Kirby managing partner Bill Willcocks, pictured, said: “Congratulations to Gabrielle, Helen and Laura on their promotions, which are extremely well deserved.

“We are proud of their achievements and their valuable contribution to the firm as lawyers and team members.

“At Barcan+Kirby, staff development is a core focus and we value the opportunity to celebrate our employees in their hard work.

“We are pleased to announce that their promotions maintain the firm’s gender-balanced Partnership and it is an honour to introduce them to the partnership.”

Barcan+Kirby provides legal advice and guidance to individuals and businesses across the South West and nationally from its offices in Queen Square, Bedminster, Bishopston, Clifton, Kingswood and Thornbury.

It won the Law Firm of the Year (under 20 partners) category in the Bristol Law Society Awards was a finalist in the Legal Category of the Bristol Life Awards last year. In 2019 it was awarded the Business Award for Gender at the Bristol Diversity Awards.
