South West law firm Foot Anstey, which has an office in Bristol, is welcoming an 11-strong cohort of trainees this month after a huge increase in applications.

The number of individuals applying for training contracts at the firmed soared by 84% this year on 2018.

This followed a concerted recruitment campaign to boost awareness of Foot Anstey’s training scheme among aspiring lawyers.

Training principal and board member Martin Hirst said: “Foot Anstey has had a consistently high-quality training programme for a number of years now.

“It’s just been a case of communicating that to more graduates so that they understand the value of training with us.”

The firm also believes that the quality of work given to trainees is comparable to that of a City firm – even if the hours are not.

“Our trainees get immediate exposure to working directly with clients on high-quality deals and disputes, on a par with what they’d get in the City,” added Martin.

“But they also get the benefits of living in the West Country and working within an entrepreneurial and agile environment.”

Foot Anstey has consistently improved its financial position in the past decade and last year was ranked as the sixth-fastest growing law firm in the country.

It has eight offices, including in London, from which it delivers a full service offering to businesses and high net worth individuals. Its Bristol office, which opened nearly seven years ago with just 10 employees, now has more than 160 staff.

Its sister firm Enable Law is also a market leader in clinical negligence, catastrophic injury and mental capacity law.
