International law firm Osborne Clarke’s state-of-the-art Bristol office, recognised as one of the UK’s most sustainable, is in the running for another prestigious award.

Following its shortlisting last year in two categories of the SBID International Design Awards – regarded as among the most coveted accolades for design excellence – the office, pictured, is now challenging for a British Council for Offices (BCO) award.

These awards recognise top-quality office design and functionality, and are seen as the benchmark for excellence in workplaces.

Osborne Clarke’s 74,000 sq ft office, pictured, home to around 780 employees on the top five floors of the landmark Halo building at Finzels Reach, will line up in the best fit-out category at the BCO South of England and South Wales Awards in Cardiff on 16 May.

The design of the new office was masterminded by Bath-based workplace design-and-build company Interaction, with a focus on wellbeing, agile working and sustainability.

Highlights include indoor gardens, flexible workspaces, yoga and spin studios and a restaurant with a rooftop terrace.

The office also has extensive indoor planting, including ‘living walls’ and indoor gardens where staff can work away from their desks.

In keeping with strict sustainability criteria, the Halo fit-out was designed with WELL Building and Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) certifications in mind.

Sustainable materials were used throughout the workspace, including reclaimed clothing materials and recycled plastics.

Interaction managing director Dieter Wood, pictured, said: “Osborne Clarke’s Halo office was a game-changing project for us in terms of scale, design and sustainability, so it’s really gratifying to be recognised for our work there once again.

“We created a cutting-edge workspace that serves as a best-in-class example of how to design for both people and the planet.”

Regional BCO Award winners will go on to compete in their categories at the national awards dinner in London in October.

Interaction’s other recent projects in Bristol have included an 8,000 sq ft ultra-flexible office scheme for real estate investment firm EPIC in its Linear Park building at Temple Quay, a new workspace for global cloud-based finance software provider Xledger and GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre in Filton.
