A charity providing social clubs and holidays for people with and without disabilities is looking forward to staging its first full Christmas party since the pandemic, thanks to Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby.
The University of Bristol Student Union Phab is one of six grassroots organisations that is benefiting from Barcan+Kirby’s community fund. 
Many of its members have had minimal social interaction over the past couple of years due to the pandemic as they were considered particularly vulnerable so are looking forward this year’s Christmas get-together.
Bristol SU Phab treasurer Helen Mitson said: “Bristol SU Phab is a social club where disabled 16-25-year-olds and Bristol University students come together to interact and take part in fun activities.
“The Barcan+Kirby Community Fund has generously provided us with funding for our Christmas party.
“This event is eagerly awaited by our members and is more important than ever this year as we can provide an exciting in-person experience.
“We are so grateful that we have been granted this funding to carry out our vision and alleviate the loneliness resulting from the pandemic.”
Barcan+Kirby’s funding will also enable Bristol SU Phab to continue providing its essential services.
Last year the charity was awarded the Lord Morris of Manchester Award last year for its outstanding contribution to the promotion and inclusion of disabled people in educational settings
The Barcan+Kirby community fund was launched in 2020 to give support organisations that benefit the communities in the areas of Bristol and South Gloucestershire where the firm has its six offices.
Barcan+Kirby managing partner Bill Willcocks said: “We are really pleased we could support Bristol SU Phab to host its Christmas party this year.
“The events it provides are so important for young people and the inspiring work the club does aligns with our values of ‘community’, ‘people-centred’ and ‘excellence’. We hope all attendees enjoy their festive celebrations.”
