Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby has expanded its commercial property team with the appointment of Gareth Hughes as associate solicitor.

Gareth, pictured, who specialises in commercial property investment and asset management, has joined from the Bristol office of regional firm Foot Anstey, where he was an associate for nearly six years.

He has also spent seven-and-a-half years at Bristol-headquartered national firm Burges Salmon, where he completed his training contract and qualified into its real estate department.

Barcan+Kirby said it would benefit from Gareth’s expertise in freehold acquisitions and disposals, leasehold transactions, estate management, development and property finance.

Managing partner Bill Willcocks said: “Gareth will no doubt be an asset to our commercial property team, which has seen significant growth in the level of instructions this year.

“His expertise will further strengthen our offering to our many clients who rely on solid legal advice in often complicated transactions.”

Gareth added:” I’m really excited about starting a new phase in my career in the legal profession with Barcan+Kirby.

“I look forward to delivering for the firm’s varied client base and assisting clients to navigate the legal complexities within the commercial property market.

“The firm is also at the forefront of supporting its staff when it comes to professional development and having a good work-life balance and was therefore the perfect fit at this point in my career.”

Barcan+Kirby’s six offices across Bristol and South Gloucestershire provide a comprehensive range of legal services, including residential conveyancing, family law and mediation, issues relating to Power of Attorney and wills and estate planning as well as corporate and commercial work.

Last month it won Bristol Law Society’s Firm of the Year (under 20 partners) Award for the second time in four years. Earlier this year was presented with the business award for gender at the Bristol Diversity Awards 2019.
